Sophie Black

Sophie Black has worked as a radio producer for almost 20 years starting off at BBC GLR, working on a variety of live arts and specialist music programmes. She went on to help set up the digital radio station BBC 7 which within 18 months of being on air had won Sony station of the Year. Since then she continues to produce radio programmes, podcasts and short-form content across all the major BBC radio networks and independent outlets including the award winning Prison Radio Association. In 2014 she produced Raw Meat Radio, a 3 hour Chris Morris special for BBC Radio 4 Extra which received much critical acclaim. She frequently contributes audio stories for BBC Radio 4’s Short Cuts and other recent credits include Nick Clegg’s Anger Management , Remainiacs and Alex Edelman’s Special Relationships for BBC Radio 4. Her own parenting podcast, The Trap Door was nominated for Best Family Podcast at the British Podcast Awards, 2020. She is currently producing an 8 part history series for Audible with Greg Jenner and has produced branded content for a range of businesses and organisations including Forsters LLP and the Campaign to End Loneliness.

Sophie is also a comedy writer - she was nominated for the Edinburgh Best Newcomer Award in 2006 as part of a sketch group called Fat Tongue and went on to appear in TV shows such as 10 O’Clock Live, Anna & Katy, The Royal Wedding Crashers, Lee Kern’s Celebrity Bedlam and Comedy Shuffle. She also wrote, starred in and produced the film Single White Feline for the BBC which went on to get over 3 million hits online.

A born and bred South Londoner, she lives in Brixton with two tiny babies and a fully grown man.
